Apple Stores/Shares YOUR Location In iOS4

If you tend towards paranoia, you probably this Gizmodo article Gizmodo article about the iPhone's new location-sharing policy. If you look deep at the TOS for iOS4, you find this little gem of a line;
"To provide location-based services on Apple products, Apple and our partners and licensees may collect, use, and share precise location data, including the real-time geographic location of your Apple computer or device."
Apple then goes on to clarify that this data will be collected anonymously, likely matched up with your device ID number. Of course, anyone with access to purchase records would be able to find out which iPhone belongs to you. This sounds scary, and I won't pretend that what Apple is doing here isn't a little creepy, but it's not like Google isn't doing the same thing.
If you really want to keep your location info out of the hands of giant faceless corporations, you need to take action to keep your information private. Passivity is no longer an option for the privacy conscious. Jailbreak your phone, switch your Gmail account for HushMail and start being careful about which apps you use. Vigilance is the only defense.
