How to detect Dead/Hot Pixel on your sensor?
1. Put your Lens Cap on.
2. Set to Manual focus.
3. Disable AutoISO. Manually set ISO to 3200.
4. Take a photo.
5. View the image from your camera. Zoom in a little.
6. Try to spot blue/red/green dots. If it is there. Congratulations! You have got Dead/Hot Pixel.

Re: How to detect Dead/Hot Pixel on your sensor?
lol, i found this technique accidentally and i think i shared with you before max. It's so colorful, haha.
With this technique it won't usually show but try this : instead of just setting the ISO and shooting with whatever shutter speed you are on, try a long shutter speed eg. 10 secs and ISO 3200. Turn off "long exposure noise reduction" .

It might not be the the camera/sensor defect but more of the performance of the camera. I hope someone with more knowledge on this subject shed some light on this. Am really curious.

Re: How to detect Dead/Hot Pixel on your sensor?
i tried mine when i bought the camera. must turn off the noise reduction scheme.
however, after long working, your sensor will get heat up, and if you do the test again. you will see "dead pixel". it is not in this case. it is heat/hot pixel instead...
just to share some little thing i know from friend...

correct me if i'm wrong, it could be the heat/hot sensor effect, maybe...
Re: How to detect Dead/Hot Pixel on your sensor?
oh yes, add on...
in consumer sensor application, if your dead pixels are less then 5nos, you won't get refund or replacement...
not sure for slr... i suppose should be zero dead pixel since it is above consumer applications..

Re: How to detect Dead/Hot Pixel on your sensor?
I checked on mine before. It did appear at 3200 ISO and about 10 sec shutter. But at normal shooting condition, 200-800 ISO, 1 second shutter, did not observe any.

Re: How to detect Dead/Hot Pixel on your sensor?
how to remove the dead pixel if found?? i think mind got a tiny dot when i hit iso 1600,will it be dust or dead pixel?
Re: How to detect Dead/Hot Pixel on your sensor?
Can't remove, only way is to send back to Nikon to do pixel mapping. They will turn off that particular pixel.
If not mistaken, some DSLR will automatically do pixel mapping. Not sure if it is Canon or Sony. But for Nikon, definitely need to send back to service center for it. Alternatively, there are softwares that could remove these hot/dead pixels.

Re: How to detect Dead/Hot Pixel on your sensor?
yes, this is the approach... because dead pixel is wafer level defects..
Re: How to detect Dead/Hot Pixel on your sensor?
I just noticed, James case a bit special . His DSLR went through special "treatment" before hahaha!Jameslye wrote:how to remove the dead pixel if found?? i think mind got a tiny dot when i hit iso 1600,will it be dust or dead pixel?
