AF 50mm f/1.8 vs AF-S 35mm f/1.8
Hi, I am new here.
I am Malaccan =D
My body is D40, I wish to get AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 (cheap and nice) but it doesn't has the auto focus function due the my body. As I know that is a new lens for DX body which is DX AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8, auto focus can be used with my body but the price is slightly higher. So, which one is recommended?
additional question: you guys are using auto or manual focus? Friend asked me to practice and master manual focus skill but sometime the situation doesn't give us the time to manual focus.

I would say get the 35mm f/1.8. No point doing manual focus using the 50mm f/1.8. Besides the 35mm is a better focus length to be used on crop sensor. 35*1.5 = 52.5mm effectively, very close to 50mm.

AF-S 50mm f/1.4G is about RM1.8k, bout RM1k differences there. He's using D40, can't use the 50mm f/1.4D.

Hard to find second hand AF-S 50mm f/1.4G, even if have also not cheap. 50mm f/1.4G considered the top of the line 50mm prime from Nikkor , nothing to upgrade to.

That's the crop factor of your camera. D40 uses a crop sensor (1.5x).

buy both.. you will love both...
fyi, a friend of mine is also using d40 and drive his 50 f1.8 manually, and he is loving it... it takes him longer to snap, but the pic itself can't say it is AF or MF... final say, buy both
